18th & 18th Century Coppersmithing

June 30 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

July’s Seminar will be presented by BRIAN CAREY. He will be telling us about the history and purpose of copper in pre-1840 America as well as its design and function. Brian served as a Fireman for 6 years and a police officer for 20 years. His passion for living history stood out above all else.

Since being introduced to the Alafia 30+ years ago by his best friend, Robert Mac Darmont, his passion has only grown. He has competed in black powder for all those years. Brian learned about coppersmithing at the Alafia by camping near coppersmith and friend, Larry Shaw. He started studying the art of coppersmithing or RedSmithing as it was called in period terms. Upon Larry retiring from the craft, Brian immediately picked up where Larry left off. He acquired a complete shop of tools and designed his own patterns of period pieces.
